10 Minutes with Sara Quilter, CEO & Founder of Tailor Skincare

As founder of Tailor Skincare, Sara takes great pride in her products and in choosing good, quality, natural ingredients. Nothing is ever tested on animals. Sara personally samples all ingredients before they are approved for recipes. Based in Wellington, Tailor Skincare is only made with ingredients that work synergistically with the skin’s natural processes to promote healthy, well-balanced skin.

We asked Sara some burning questions about what drives her, her skincare secrets, and her favourite client stories.

What inspired you to start Tailor Skincare?

After spending time researching the organic horticulture industry in California I began questioning the chemicals in our food, and in the personal care products we use on a daily basis. When I looked at my skincare I didn’t like what I found. Rather than just buying something off the shelf which claimed to be natural, I decided to find out why all the various ingredients were in my skincare, and to make my own – without the toxic ingredients.

I founded Tailor on three key principles: natural ingredients, cruelty free and eco friendly business decisions. But for me, Tailor is really about creating health and self-confidence.

When we get emails from clients saying that Tailor has improved their skin and that they now have the confidence to rock a make up free face, we feel we are winning! Don’t get me wrong; I love a bit of make up, but feel it should be used to enhance your already beautiful skin.

At Tailor we want to create beautiful skin for beautiful people – and we’re all beautiful.

What ingredients you are most smitten with?

Our probiotic lysate in our Tailor Renew facial serum is hands down the ingredient I am most smitten with! It helps to stimulate the skin’s natural peptide production. Peptides are the building blocks of amino acids, and amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Tailor Renew has been shown to have great antiaging effects – and is also great at helping to heal breakout prone skin!

I also love our bentonite clay from the Hawkes Bay; it is the ultimate detoxifying clay. It works to unclog the pores, shrink them down and leave the skin feeling baby soft.

Can you share your own skincare regime?

AM: 6.30 hot yoga session (amazing for the skin), hop in the shower and wash my face with water or a little Tailor Polish. Out of the shower, I apply Tailor Renew serum and follow with Tailor Your Blend 3.5 personalised moisturiser. I’ll then apply my make up (if it’s that kind of day).

Midday: A glass of Ora Pure – Renew… it’s the best!

PM: Remove any make up with Tailor Oil Cleanse, or give myself a facial massage with Oil Cleanse to help stimulate my lymph, remove with a gentle face cloth and follow with Renew facial serum and Your Blend 3.5 bespoke moisturiser.

Name your most beloved Tailor product?

How do I even choose? That’s like asking who’s your favourite child! Is it the oldest one because they have been around the longest, or is it the youngest one which is full of life? 😊

Ok seriously – I’m loving Tailor Polish at the moment, with the natural salicylic acid extracted from wintergreen, and bentonite clay it helps to shrink my nose pores and brighten my skin.
