The pitfalls of being a sun goddess

Kiwis love summertime, beaches, and a golden tan. We imagine dreamy insta-worthy scenes of tawny skin, white sand & turquoise sea… but reality can be less picturesque!

ISSUE #1 – HOT PINK SUNBURN

The New Zealand sun is infamous as are our skin-cancer rates – our ozone hole means that a luxurious half hour lazing languidly on the beach in pursuit of golden limbs can result in blotchy, painful, scarlet skin! Limiting sun exposure is really the only way to prevent accelerated skin aging, increased melanoma risk, and embarassingly bright burn patches. We’ve all got summer photos with strained smiles, raspberry faces and rudely red shoulders.

SOLUTION #1 – COVER UP & PROTECT

Invest in some truly gorgeous hats, flowy tops and sunglasses. Strike your pose in the shade of a stunning pohutukawa or take a sunset stroll instead of a midday hike. Put a really good natural sunblock in your bag, your car, your bathroom, and use them!

ISSUE #2 – FAKE TANS THAT DON’T WORK

What a let down to spend $30-$40 dollars on an instant tan product that doesn’t deliver a great colour, or leaves massive streaks down your legs (or worse, gives you a bright orange face!) We’ve all been there in the quest for a safe natural tan, and it seems most instant tanning brands either don’t change your skin colour at all, leave smeary stripes up your legs and turn your ankles ochre, or rub off on your clothes and sheets.

SOLUTION #2 – USE A GREAT SELF TAN

We’re huge fans of Eco Tan for a flawless glowing tan and lovely golden skin. With core products for self tanning your body and face, Eco Tan have a firming mousse for streak-free self tanning and added a new fake tan body water with the goodness of hemp – and back up their range of natural instant tanning products with an exfoliating glove and Himalayan salt body scrub for streak-free self tan application, a body wash to help your instant tan last – and a handy travel sized kit that lets you try all the goodness before you go large. It’s also ideal for taking on tropical holidays!

GET OUT THERE AND ENJOY YOURSELF, SUNSHINE!

We hope you’ve had a glorious summer holiday and get the most out of the rest of our lovely weather and incredible New Zealand countryside. Have fun!
