We are constantly delighted at how many of our wonderful clients are working to use less plastic and live a more sustainable life! Thank you all so much.
Our Plastic Free Essentials category continues to become more and more popular, and we work hard to add more of the products you want. Please let us know if you know a beautiful waste free brand that we should be stocking, especially if they are made in New Zealand, as this reduces the environmental impact of shipping and we love supporting sustainable Kiwi businesses.
Sustainable life hacks for less plastic waste
1. Take your own
From eco-friendly reusable shopping bags to coffee cups, drink flasks, steel bottles and straws, re-using kicks the pants off recycling. Make a wee kit up and take it with you!
2. Choose bamboo
Bamboo is an eco super star! A huge hardy grass, bamboo grows fast, without the use of fertilizers or pesticides. When harvested, it sprouts back up like a enormous lawn, which means it is simply one of the most sustainable options for pretty much anything – we sell toothbrushes, cups, cutlery, drink flasks, straws, combs, pegs and brushes. It’s anti-bacterial and anti-fungal so it makes an extra hygienic option for cotton buds, undies and sanitary products. Shop our growing range of bamboo products here.
3. Ditch the plastic cling wrap & Tupperware
With reusable food wraps, steel cups and bento lunch boxes, storing food and tasty school lunches can easily become plastic free… and you’ll be keeping your food free of plastic chemicals.
4. Enjoy waste free beauty
We just love beauty brands that skip plastic packaging as well as toxic chemicals and animal testing. Now that’s guilt-free beauty!
5. Clean teeth, clean world
Floss made from bamboo fibres and infused with cleansing charcoal? Toothbrushes with bamboo handles and charcoal infused bristles? Yes please. Get ultra clean teeth with no need for plastic.
6. Sanitary care – that cares for the world too
Reusable period care is the ideal with menstrual cups topping our list of sustainable options, but if this isn’t your style you can choose bamboo plastic free pads and tampons from Tsuno for sustainable period care.
7. Cut the paper towels, baby wipes & make up wipes
Even though they aren’t plastic, paper towels still mean bleach and processing and carbon miles – all for a single wipe before being binned. Ditto for makeup wipes and baby wipes; but with the addition of a handful of chemicals and often some plastic fibres to make them stronger. Try our reusable Tailor Towels for removing makeup, and sustainable Green Collective dishcloths for your kitchen spills!
Waste free living is a worthwhile journey
A waste-free lifestyle is good for the planet (less pollution and rubbish), it’s good for your body (less exposure to toxins and plastic chemicals) and it’s good for your wallet (over time you will save again and again.) You’ll feel good about living lighter on the world, and supporting sustainable businesses with the choices you make. We think waste free is a win-win scenario!
Hi Jan 🙂 We are online only but we deliver all over New Zealand. We also have free shipping until Valentine’s Day when you use the code BEMINE 😉 But if you are looking for shops that stock the same products as us you would probably need to find that out by contacting the brands you are interested in direct as I’m not sure 🙂 Jenna xx
